The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has warned of possible cyber threats by leveraging the recent Microsoft outage. In this case, the outage occurred due to a content update from CrowdStrike Falcon and not by any malicious cyber activity.
Even with this explanation, CISA still warns that there are possible phishing and other campaigns taking advantage of this disruption. This places greater emphasis on the fact that every organization needs to have strong cybersecurity defenses against these threats.
Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, came out in acceptance of fault at hand and assured the public of working tirelessly with CrowdStrike and the industry to bring back systems safely. Microsoft has been working hard to actively help customers in their recovery efforts.
CrowdStrike, in its update, verified that the vulnerability had been identified, isolated, and a fix against this vulnerability had already been implemented.
