'Twitter should open-source its algorithm': Elon Musk after making $43 Billion Offer to buy microblogging site

Elon Musk made this remark after making an offer to buy Twitter for $43 billion cash. Musk is  the largest shareholder of Twitter with 9.2% of stake in the microblogging site. In an interview to Chris Anderson on TED talks, Musk gave his thoughts about how he would like to change Twitter if he were to buy it.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Thursday said that microblogging site Twitter should open-source its algorithm. Musk made this remark after making an offer to buy Twitter for $43 billion cash. Musk is  the largest shareholder of Twitter with 9.2% of stake in the microblogging site. In an interview to Chris Anderson on TED talks, Musk gave his thoughts about how he would like to change Twitter if he were to buy it.

1. On TED talks with Chris, Musk said that Twitter has become a kind of the de facto town square.

2. "It's very important for there to be an inclusive arena for free speech, it's just really important that people have both the reality and the perception that they are able to speak freely within the bounds of law," Musk said.

3. Giving his opinion for twitter to open- source the algorithm, Elon said, "One of the things I believe Twitter should do is open-source the algorithm and make any changes to people's tweets - if they are emphasized or de-emphasized, that action should be made apparent. So anyone can see that action has been taken. So there's no sort of behind-the-scenes manipulation, either algorithmically or manually."

4. Earlier on Thursday, Elon Musk wrote a letter to Twitter Chairman Bret Taylor and offered him $54.20 per share. He further added that this is the best and final offer and if it is not accepted, he would be forced to consider his position as a shareholder.
