Report Shows Indian Gen Z Devotes 73% More Time to Learning AI Skills Compared to Other Generations

In India, Gen Z professionals are showing a pronounced interest in acquiring Artificial Intelligence (AI) skills compared to their older counterparts, dedicating 73 per cent more time to learning this skill, according to a recent report released on Tuesday by the global professional networking platform LinkedIn.

LinkedIn's data indicates that Gen Z individuals are investing 1.3 times more learning effort in AI skills compared to Gen X and a substantial 2.4 times more than Baby Boomers.

"Upskilling is no longer just an option, it's imperative, with a renewed focus on cultivating vital human skills like leadership and problem-solving to harness AI's full potential," emphasized Ashutosh Gupta, Country Manager, LinkedIn India.

The report unveiled a surge in global AI conversations, marking a solid 70 per cent increase from December 2022 to September 2023.

Interestingly, the preferred skills among learners in India vary across generations. While Gen Z is actively learning digital skills such as Programming Languages, Cloud Computing, and Data Analysis, Millennials and Gen X are directing their learning efforts towards soft skills like Leadership and Management, Personal Effectiveness, and Personal Development.

As AI increasingly takes charge of routine tasks, professionals have the opportunity to redirect their focus toward more meaningful, creative work that necessitates the uniquely human touch encapsulated in soft skills.

The report further highlighted that across the Asia-Pacific region, tech professionals equipped with both hard and soft skills experience over a 13 per cent faster rate of promotion compared to those solely focusing on hard skills.

In India, the most sought-after soft skills in AI and AI-related job postings encompass communication, analytical skills, and sales acumen.

The advancements in generative AI are presenting extensive opportunities to transcend barriers across cultures, geographies, and industries, subsequently broadening the horizon for hybrid work settings.

Acknowledging the shifting landscape, organizations are increasingly adapting to this demand for flexibility. Hybrid job postings in India have risen from 13.2 per cent in August 2022 to 20.1 per cent in August 2023, as indicated in the report, signifying a proactive response to evolving work dynamics.
