Launched by the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit that administers Wikipedia, the code's standards include clearly defining acceptable behaviour; delineating harassment on and off the projects for all Wikipedia participants; preventing the abuse of power and influence to intimidate others, and combating deliberate introduction of false or inaccurate content.

Lal brings extensive experience in engineering and space technology, serving as a member of the research staff at the Institute for Defence Analyses (IDA) Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI) from 2005 to 2020.
