Twitter will no longer crop single images on web app
With the new update, users will no longer have to click on an image to see the full picture. The feature appears to be rolling out to everyone right now. The algorithmic image cropping that Twitter was using to fit images into preview boxes was problematic. In a blog post, Rumman Chowdhury, a software engineering director for Twitter's machine learning ethics, transparency and accountability team, wrote that the company concluded the algorithm was biased after testing it for gender- and race-based biases.

Netflix Gaming rolling out for iPhone, iPad users
iOS users will see a dedicated row in the Netflix iOS and iPadOS apps, from which you can pick a game to download starting on Thursday. "Netflix Games is coming to iOS! Starting tomorrow, you can access Netflix Games through the Netflix app on any mobile device, anywhere in the world," Netflix Geeked wrote on Twitter. A recent report said that the video streaming giant will release all of its games on Apple's App Store individually and let users launch the games via the Netflix app. However, they won't be downloadable and playable within the app itself.
Twitter's Blue subscription to allow undo tweets, read ad-free news
The company's subscription service is also adding new features, including an undo button, which lets you recall tweets before they are sent. "With Undo Tweet, subscribers can preview and perfect Tweets before they are sent," the company said in a blogpost. "Subscribers also have access to Reader, which turns long threads into an easier-to-read experience. They can also change the text size within Reader to tailor their experience even further," it added.
Apple directed to use external payment options on App Store by Dec 9
The order came in the Epic Games vs Apple antitrust lawsuit in California late on Tuesday, filed last year by the Fortnite developer and which went to trial this year. "Apple's motion is based on a selective reading of this Court's findings and ignores all of the findings which supported the injunction," the new order read, reports The Verge. Although Apple largely won that lawsuit, the US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers sided with the Fortnite publisher regarding restrictions on in-app purchases on the App Store.

It is important to note that the interest targeting options being removed is not based on people's physical characteristics or personal attributes, but instead on things like people's interactions with content on the platform. "Starting January 19, 2022 we will remove Detailed Targeting options that relate to topics people may perceive as sensitive, such as options referencing causes, organisations, or public figures that relate to health, race or ethnicity, political affiliation, religion, or sexual orientation," the company said in a statement.
Indian origin scientist named primary contributor to invention of Moderna's Covid vaccine
A filing by the company for its patent application for the coronavirus vaccine using the revolutionary RNA technique listed Pune-educated bioinformatics scientist Mihir Metkar as the "first named inventor", a designation that usually recognises the primary contributor to the invention. He is also listed as one of the inventors in two other Covid-19 vaccine patent applications by Moderna to the US Patent Office.
Microsoft Windows 11 SE, Surface Laptop SE announced
The new Windows 11 edition is a simplified version of Microsoft's newest OS release, customized for the education market. Microsoft says Windows 11 SE has been optimized for education focused low-cost PCs. Unlike normal Windows 11, Windows 11 SE comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Office out of the box, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, and OneDrive, which can also be used offline as part of a Microsoft 365 license.
