Over 2.2 million YouTube videos receives incorrect copyright claims: Report

More than 2.2 million YouTube videos received incorrect copyright claims that were later reversed between January and June of this year, according to the Copyright Transparency Report published by YouTube. The report is first of its kind and will be updated biannually, The Verge reported. However, 2.2 million incorrect claims comprise less than 1 per cent of over 729 million total copyright claims issued this year.

3. As per the report, "When disputes take place, the process provided by YouTube provides real recourse, and over 60 per cent of these disputes were resolved in favor of the uploader."

4. This new report gives shape to a problem that YouTube itself has acknowledged needs updating, the report further said.  

5. Copyright claims affect a Youtuber in a way that it can result in videos being blocked, audio being muted, or ad revenue going back to the rights owner.
