Google introduces voice, video call features to Google mail app

Tech giant Google rolls out a new feature for the Gmail app. This new feature will let the users make one-on-one voice and video calls on Google Chat inside the Gmail app. The feature is accessible to both iOS and Android users. The thought behind this feature was explained by the company, stating that this feature will allow the users to connect with their colleagues one-on-one, during a time when half of the employees returned to office and half still working from their home.

Google's New feature update | Key points


1.The new feature of Google chat will allow the users to now start or join meetings and audio calls from one-on-one chats in Google Chat available in the Gmail app. The company said, at the moment, this feature will be available for one-on-one chats only.

2. Users can ring someone directly, by selecting the phone or video icon in the top right corner of a one-on-one chat. And easily they can join a call, by selecting the phone or video chip within the one-on-one chat.

3. Users can also see a banner of the person they are on a call with, the call duration and a Meet icon in the chat roster.

4. Users can also see whether they have any missed call which will be indicated with a red phone or video icon within the conversation and the chat roster.

5. How will the Google Chat app and Gmail app make the users make a call ? users can select "Join a call" from the Google Chat app, they will be redirected to the Gmail app, where the call will take place.

6. "As some teams begin to return to office, while others remain distributed, we hope this makes it easier to connect with your colleagues in the hybrid work world.", Google said. "This feature will allow you to seamlessly switch between chat to a video or audio call when needed, helping you collaborate and move your work forward," the company further said.
