Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday stated that soon enough, India's smallest chip will have the biggest impact on the world.
During the inauguration of 'Semicon India 2025' in New Delhi, the Prime Minister reiterated that India is shifting from simply managing the backend of the semiconductor space. Rather, the nation is building a full-stack ecosystem for global competitiveness and for becoming self-reliant.
Speaking to a global conclave of industry captains, thinkers, and representatives from more than 40 nations, PM Modi said, “The world trusts India. The world believes in India. The world is ready to build the semiconductor future with India. In the semiconductor world, oil is often called black gold, while chips are considered digital diamonds.”
The Prime Minister stressed that India’s semiconductor initiative is not limited to manufacturing but focuses on creating a comprehensive ecosystem capable of reshaping the global industry.
“Oil shaped the last century, and the fate of the world was tied to oil wells. But in the 21st century, power is concentrated in the small chip. Though tiny, the chip has the strength to drive the world’s progress at great speed,” the PM Modi said.
Emphasizing the industry's potential, the Prime Minister pointed out that the worldwide semiconductor industry, valued at $600 billion, is projected to cross the $1-trillion mark in the next few years, with India set to make a central contribution.
PM Modi also highlighted India's strong economic performance and said that the nation registered 7.8 per cent GDP growth in the April–June quarter, beating expectations across the world.
“This growth is visible across all sectors and shows the strength of India’s economy,” the Prime Minister said.
Addressing the world participants, the Prime Minister further added that the fact that experts from over 40 countries are present along with India's innovation and young talent sends a very strong message: “The world trusts India and is ready to build the future of semiconductors with India.”
