Bharath Shenoy, Research Manager at IDC India & South Asia, noted, "The consumer segment sustained its growth momentum for the third consecutive quarter, albeit with a moderated pace compared to the robust double-digit expansion witnessed in the preceding quarters, clocking under 5 percent growth."

The consumer segment saw a 4.4 percent year-over-year increase in Q1, attributed partly to the lower volumes recorded in Q1 of 2023. Meanwhile, the commercial segment posted a more modest growth of 1.3 percent year-over-year, bolstered by a substantial 56.9 percent year-over-year surge in the government segment despite a dip in enterprise orders.

HP maintained its dominance in the market, capturing a 30.1 percent share in Q1, leading across both commercial and consumer sectors. Dell followed closely behind, securing the second position with a 17.5 percent market share.Analysts highlighted challenges in the commercial segment stemming from reduced PC procurement by the IT/ITES sector and global accounts, which historically contribute significantly to market volumes.

Navkendar Singh, Associate Vice President of Devices Research at IDC APAC, commented, "Market recovery is anticipated towards the latter half of 2024, driven by refresh purchases from the enterprise segment. Vendors have also expedited the local assembly of commercial notebooks, aiming to curtail imports in the forthcoming quarters."
