India PC market nosedives 11.7% as consumer demand slows down: Report

According to new data from the International Data Corporation (IDC), all segments declined except the government, which grew by 91.5 per cent YoY as government orders materialised, leading to strong growth for the third consecutive quarter. "With schools and colleges opening, the consumer segment is seeing tapering demand for the past few months as demand for remote learning has come to a standstill," said Bharath Shenoy, Senior Market Analyst, IDC India.

PC shipments are set to decline by 13.1 per cent this year after recording growth in 2020 and 2021. Semiconductor revenue from smartphones is on pace to slow to 3.1 per cent growth, compared to 24.5 per cent growth in 2021. "Although chip shortages are abating, the global semiconductor market is entering a period of weakness, which will persist through 2023 when semiconductor revenue is projected to decline 2.5 per cent," said Richard Gordon, Practice VP at Gartner.
Global PC shipments see sharpest decline in 9 years in Q2

The worldwide PC shipments saw 72 million units in the second quarter, a 12.6 per cent decline from the second quarter last year, according to Gartner. "The decline we saw in the first quarter of 2022 has accelerated in the second quarter, driven by the ongoing geopolitical instability caused by the Russian Invasion of Ukraine, inflationary pressure on spending and a steep downturn in demand for Chromebooks," said Mikako Kitagawa, research director at Gartner.
Global PC monitor market sluggish in Q1, shipments to decline further

Amid a tough market, Dell with 22.4 per cent market share expanded its leadership position through its supply chain competency and commercial sales, reports the IDC. Overall, the market was a tale of two halves - the commercial market grew over 5 per cent while the consumer side declined 5 per cent. Samsung also saw year-over-year growth, buoyed in part by its leader status in the consumer monitor space.
Despite decline, Lenovo tops global PC market in Q4 2021

The decline was due to the slowed US market, weak Chromebook demand and supply chain issues, which impeded Lenovo's ability to supply PCs to enterprise customers. These factors also contributed to HP's 4 per cent year-over-year decline. However, HP's decline was tempered by robust growth in the Asia-Pacific market. HP with 21.1 per cent share was second, followed by Dell with 19.5 per cent global market share in Q4.
India's software market sales to reach $7.6B by 2021 end

The India software market was pegged at $7 billion in 2020, registering a growth of 13.4 per cent year-over-year (YoY) compared with that in 2019. India accounted for 17.5 per cent share of the overall Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan and China) (APEJC) region software market in 2020. Microsoft, Oracle and SAP maintained their leadership positions in the India market during the same year.
