Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that India will host the next Global AI Summit, following discussions at the AI Action Summit in Paris. Co-chaired by PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, the summit focused on fostering global collaboration in Artificial Intelligence (AI) development.
During his concluding address, PM Modi welcomed the establishment of the “AI Foundation” and the “Council for Sustainable AI,” praising France and President Macron for their leadership in these initiatives and assuring India’s full support.
“I welcome the decision to set up the ‘AI Foundation’ and the ‘Council for Sustainable AI.’ I congratulate France and my dear friend President Macron for these initiatives and assure our full support,” he stated.
Emphasizing inclusivity, PM Modi called for the Global Partnership for AI to better reflect the priorities and concerns of the Global South.
“To build on the momentum of this Action Summit, India would be happy to host the next Summit,” he announced.
He also highlighted India’s advancements in AI, particularly the development of its own Large Language Model (LLM) tailored to the country’s diversity. Additionally, he underscored India’s unique public-private partnership model, which pools computational resources to support start-ups and researchers at affordable costs.
“India is building its own large language model considering our diversity. We also have a unique public-private partnership model for pooling resources like compute power. It is made available to our start-ups and researchers at an affordable cost. India is ready to share its experience and expertise to ensure that AI’s future is for good and for all,” PM Modi remarked.
In a social media post on X, he commended the AI Action Summit as a valuable platform for discussions on AI.
“The AI Action Summit in Paris is a commendable effort to bring together world leaders, policymakers, thinkers, innovators, and youngsters to have meaningful conversations around AI,” he wrote.
Speaking on the transformative potential of AI, PM Modi reassured that while AI is at the forefront of technological evolution, human intelligence and responsibility will always remain paramount.
“We are at the dawn of the AI age that will shape the course of humanity. Some people worry about machines becoming superior in intelligence to humans. But no one holds the key to our collective future and shared destiny other than us humans. That sense of responsibility must guide us,” he concluded.
Held at the Grand Palais in Paris, the summit brought together global leaders, innovators, and experts to shape the future of responsible AI development and its applications.
