ChatGPT, one of the most widely used Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools developed by OpenAI, was not working for millions of users around the world on Thursday.
Furious users flocked to social media platforms X Thursday to say they were unable to access the popular chatbot.
Complaints flooding in, which seem widespread, came in from several countries.
According to Downdetector, a website monitoring service that shows real-time and historical outages, thousands have been affected so far.
Website data shows there was a huge spike in reports of ChatGPT outages early this morning, and that number continues rising as more face the issue.
Some users could not log into the system. Others say it's not working at all because the AI just isn't responding to commands.
The heat map, a technique that uses colour to represent data values, on Downdetector confirms that the outage is based on user-submitted complaints.
So far, nearly 90 per cent of users have reported problems with the ChatGPT app, while others are facing issues on the website as well.
OpenAI has not yet shared any official statement on the cause or extent of the outage.
Meanwhile, fed-up users continue to flood X with posts and memes about the situation.
User humorously mentioned, "Today, I lost access to ChatGPT for 20 minutes, and it felt like it was 2015 and Google Search had gone offline for a couple of hours."
Another added "Everyone coming to X to confirm chatgpt down" with a meme.
"ChatGPT down again??! surprised not surprised!!!," the user said.
Chatgpt is always down in the middle of doing my assignment. "
Another user chimed in by adding: "Watching everyone freak out when Chatgpt is down and they have to use their brains we truly r doomed" .
ChatGPT was still down until the time of the filing of this report.
However, today's outage is not the first time for ChatGPT.
This incident occurred recently when the AI chatbot went global on January 23, not allowing users to access it from the web and the app.
Downdetector also reported over a thousand complaints related to the same outage, which frustrated users made their way to X to discuss the malfunction of the AI.
