Google has acquired the company Cameyo, a company that creates virtualization tools enabling Windows apps to operate on ChromeOS devices.
The two companies collaborated last year after Google saw how virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) would introduce a seamless application delivery experience integrated with ChromeOS for virtualised applications.
This means that access to data and files can be made easier, more secure, and, most importantly, familiar through virtual applications.
As Head of Product Management for ChromeOS Naveen Viswanatha noted, "With the Cameyo team's experience coming in-house, we will redouble our efforts to build a seamless experience for virtualised applications."
One of the central motivations for ChromeOS has been to deliver the best experience for virtual applications.
For ChromeOS users, this move opens the door for even better access to vital legacy applications without the burdens of complicated installations or updating processes.
According to Google, integrating the technology of Cameyo with ChromeOS enables businesses to speed up the adoption of web-based technology .
Virtualized applications can be effortlessly deployed and accessed across organizations, irrespective of the device or location.
According to the company, “Both ChromeOS and Cameyo provide zero trust security, and together deliver deep protection of data and systems from vulnerabilities."
Viswanatha further stated, By combining the power of ChromeOS with Cameyo’s innovative VAD technology, we are empowering businesses to modernise their IT infrastructure while preserving their investments in existing software."
