As social concerns continue to rise over the spread of adult content, the X social media platform has revised its guidelines under the leadership of Elon Musk, officially allowing users to post adult and graphic material, though under certain conditions.
As its revised policy points out, X now allows users to share content of adult nudity or sexual material that has been created and distributed with full consent, as long as it is appropriately labeled and not prominently displayed.
According to the updated stance by the platform, users can generate, distribute, and consume sexual content or anything related to sexual themes, saying such content produced and distributed must have full consent.
Sexual expression is something it supports and admits can be a form of art; hence, the platform stipulates belief in allowing adults to produce and create content that reflects what they believe, desire, and experience, which includes sexual content.
The revised rules now do permit users to share NSFW—short for not safe for work—material, but only if it is properly labeled.
The revised guidelines also pertain to AI-generated media, such as videos and images, as relayed by the X platform.
Recent reports indicate that X is experimenting with a tool that facilitates the creation or participation in communities centered around adult content.
However, it's worth noting that last year, the Indian government issued notices to X, among other platforms, urging the removal of pornographic material and content depicting child sexual abuse (CSAM).
Additionally, Australia has imposed fines on X for its failure to furnish information regarding child abuse content.
