OpenAI’s ChatGPT continues to see remarkable global growth, with user engagement reaching staggering levels. Backed by Microsoft, the AI company revealed that it now processes around 2.5 billion prompts daily from users worldwide. Of these, over 300 million originate from the United States, according to a recent Axios report.
This daily usage totals more than 912 billion interactions each year, an impressive symbol of ChatGPT's rapid integration into digital habits of millions worldwide.
For contrast, Google Search, owned by Alphabet Inc., deals with approximately five trillion queries annually. Even though Google does not segment use as daily or monthly usage, this yearly figure indicates the site receives about 14 billion daily searches. This was supported by third-party research, as referenced in TechCrunch. In spite of ChatGPT's exponential growth, it is still far behind Google in terms of total user interaction.
The US and India are ChatGPT's biggest user bases. The AI chatbot recently topped Apple's App Store charts in India before being knocked off by Perplexity, after a promotional stunt. Perplexity reached the top after promoting a free year of its Pro subscription for Bharti Airtel users, one of India's major telecom operators.
Building on its feature catalog even more, OpenAI has launched an impressive new feature dubbed the ChatGPT Agent. This new improvement allows the chatbot to independently carry out sophisticated operations without constant input from the user. Some of its augmented functions include web browsing, creating presentations, and many more—all done on a virtual machine controlled by the AI system itself.
The new ChatGPT Agent has a rich suite of tools, such as text- and image-based browsers and access to APIs directly. The agent can also engage with external platforms such as GitHub and Gmail effortlessly, due to in-built connectors. Perhaps most remarkably, the agent can intelligently decide which tool is most appropriate for the task at hand, providing a more adaptive and self-sufficient AI experience.
