Canara Bank Addresses Compromised X Handle, Initiates Restoration Efforts

Canara Bank in a statement said, "Canara Bank would like to intimate all concerned that the bank's official X handle has been compromised. All concerned teams are investigating the matter and working closely with X to regain access to Canara Bank X handle at the earliest."

Canara Bank admitted on Sunday that its official social media handle on X had been hacked. According to them, the till now username was changed to 'ether fi'. The handle @canarabank has about 2.55 lakh followers.

Till 4 P.M., there were no new posts on the hacked handle. The bank asked its users not to post anything on its X page, till the issue is resolved: "We shall keep you informed immediately when it is restored and under the control of Canara Bank. The inconvenience caused is regretted."

It is incidentally a month – a very similar cyber attack on Axis Bank's support handle on X was hacked on June 17. Messages related to tech billionaire Elon Musk's company Tesla kept appearing in that case as well.

Axis Bank was quick to respond: "Our support handle has been possibly hacked. We are trying to get the issue resolved at the earliest. Please ignore all posts made during this period and do not click on any unauthorized links.".

"The bank never asked for any kind of personal details regarding internet and mobile banking passwords, OTP, ATM PIN, or otherwise. We apologize for any inconvenience caused," Axis Bank clarified.
The two banks are working toward securing their social media handles to diffuse any potential risk from these cyber attacks.
