Altman's Retort: Responding to Elon Musk's Lawsuit, Sam Altman Revives Old Exchange

In May 2019, Altman publicly supported Musk's Tesla, expressing his dismay at the number of individuals rooting against the electric vehicle manufacturer. "It's disheartening to witness so many individuals opposing Tesla. Stand with progress for the environment and innovation, rather than hoping to profit from negative outcomes," Altman shared on the platform.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, recently revisited an old conversation thread involving himself and Elon Musk following the lawsuit filed by the tech magnate against OpenAI. Musk had accused the AI company of breaching their initial contractual agreements regarding artificial intelligence.

He further emphasized, "Additionally, history has shown that betting against Elon is typically unwise... and superior products tend to prevail."

Recently, Altman resurrected the five-year-old exchange by acknowledging Musk's gratitude. "Anytime," he replied, accompanied by a salute emoji.

The lawsuit, filed in a San Francisco court, centers around OpenAI's latest natural language model, GPT-4. Musk alleges that both OpenAI and Microsoft, a major investor in the company led by Altman, have improperly licensed GPT-4. This is despite previous agreements that the artificial general intelligence (AGI) capabilities would remain nonprofit and dedicated to benefiting humanity. Musk served as an original board member of OpenAI until 2018.
