WTA Awards: Australian player Barty is player of the year, British player Raducanu is newcomer of the year

For the second time Ashleigh Barty, Australia's world number one player was crowned WTA Player of the Year and US Open champion Emma Raducanu grabbed the Newcomer of the Year award, on Tuesday. Barty is Australia's second WTA singles No.1 player after Evonne Cawley, while Raducanu, who is just 19, is the first British woman to win a Grand Slam.

1. Achiever Ashleigh Barty, who also earned the accolade in 2019, won a tour-leading five WTA titles this year. She won her second career Grand Slam title at The Championships, Wimbledon, and successfully defended her title at the Miami Open. She has also won the Porsche Race to the WTA Finals and secured the year-end World No 1 ranking for the third consecutive year.

2. The 19-year-old Player Emma Raducanu, scripted history in the current year with her US Open title, where she became the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam. And she is the only British player to win a Grand Slam. Her other notable results this season include a finals appearance at the Chicago WTA 125 and the quarterfinals at the Transylvania Open.

3. Along with Barty and Raducanu, the Czech Republic's Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova were named doubles team of the Year.

4. Additionally, Carla Suarez Navarro received the Comeback Player of the Year award.

5. With a goal to create a better future of Women's Tennis and to facilitate women tennis players, Women's Tennis Association awards are conferred to tennis players for the achievements in their career.
