Novak Djokovic is now just one victory away from securing his eighth Wimbledon title, tying the record, after defeating 25th seed Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals on Friday. This victory sets up a rematch with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
The Serbian, seeded second, achieved a 6-4, 7-6(2), 6-4 triumph over the 22-year-old Italian, leading him to face Alcaraz once again. The Spaniard advanced to the final by overcoming Daniil Medvedev with a score of 6-7(1), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in a repeat of last year's semifinal.
This was a closely-fought contest, with Djokovic showing his resolve at key times as he responded to some tactical and clever play by Musetti with some breathless defense and consistency throughout.
More than that, the Italian fought off three match points while down 0/40 at 3-5 in the third set, but Djokovic saved a break point to seal the victory and advance into his 10th Wimbledon final following two hours and 48 minutes of action.
Victory on Sunday will also see the 37-year-old Djokovic capture his 25th Grand Slam title to become the oldest champion in Wimbledon history.
Djokovic tops Alcaraz 3-2 in their head-to-head encounters and wants to make up for last year's final loss, leveling Roger Federer's record of eight Wimbledon titles.
