Rohit Sharma has also rejected suggestions that playing all their matches in Dubai has provided India with an unfair advantage in the ICC Champions Trophy, claiming that the conditions have brought their own special set of challenges.
Some of the older players from England, Australia, and Pakistan had also opined that India's extended stay in Dubai helped them acclimatize more compared to the remaining teams in Group A. However, Rohit opposed this, highlighting that Dubai was not the home ground for India and pitches there have not been consistent across the matches.
"Each time, the pitch is presenting you with different challenges. This is not our home; we don't play so many matches here. It is new for us too," Rohit said, on the eve of India's semifinal match against Australia.
He emphasized the importance of adjusting to varying playing conditions, referring to the previous match against New Zealand where both swing and spin played unpredictable roles.
"If there's something in it for the bowlers too, then that makes it very, very interesting. I am one for it," he declared, supporting a balanced and equitable contest between ball and bat.
Rohit also came to the defense of India's choice to name five spinners in the team, reasoning that what they witnessed in the ILT20 tournament in Dubai indicated that slow bowlers might be effective on these pitches.
He also added that coming to Dubai a few days in advance aided the team in acclimatizing to the conditions. "We arrived here five or six days in advance, had good practice sessions, and adjusted well in all three matches," he added.
