'The Most Exciting Series Since 2005 Ashes' : Panesar After India Seal Thriller to Draw Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy

The win propelled India to third place on the WTC table, reaching a total of 28 points from five matches and enhancing their points percentage (PCT) to 46.67.

India's nail-scorching six-run victory over England in the fifth and last Test at The Oval did more than just level the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy — it infused new life into their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 campaign.

The win propelled India to third place on the WTC table, reaching a total of 28 points from five matches and enhancing their points percentage (PCT) to 46.67.

The victory arrived in dramatic style. England needed only 35 runs with four wickets in hand on the final day, but India's fast bowling attack — led by Mohammed Siraj's brilliant five-wicket performance — orchestrated a stunning collapse. By doing so, India achieved their narrowest victory in terms of runs in Test cricket history.

The victory was especially significant for an Indian team in transition and struggling with the loss of several veteran players. With skepticism about the team's ability to learn in the Test format, the Oval revival was a strong assertion of mettle.

England, who appeared to be sealing the series on the last day, fell to fourth place in the WTC standings with 26 points and a PCT of 43.33. Their position was further affected by a two-point penalty for slow over-rate in the second Test at Lord's.

Sitting atop the table are Australia, who are still undefeated and dominant, 36 points acquired in three Tests and with a 100% PCT after whitewashing the West Indies 3-0. Sri Lanka are placed second, sitting on 16 points from their two-match series victory over Bangladesh, with a PCT of 66.67.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, are placed fifth after notching a draw and a loss from their two matches, accumulating four points and a PCT of 16.67. The West Indies are stuck at the very bottom, with zero wins from their three matches and still without an entry on the board.

New Zealand, Pakistan, and current title holders South Africa have not yet played a match during this WTC cycle. With a few big Test series looming in the background, the rankings are likely to change — but India's hard-won victory at The Oval has provided them with the vital momentum to take with them.
