Heinrich Malan, the head coach of the Ireland cricket team, on Tuesday exuded confidence of doing well ahead of their opening T20 World Cup match against India, scheduled for Wednesday.
Malan said that he was confident his squad could find and take advantage of the vulnerabilities that India presents.
"India is an experienced side, which means there's a lot of data and a lot of information out there. Hopefully, we can look to find a couple of areas we can try and exploit," Modi said while addressing a press conference.
In articulating how the tournament's unexpected nature was likely to suit him, Malan then harkened to the "luck of the Irish" and how history has tended to smile upon his team. Unfazed by the alien playing conditions, he added: "It has shown in the past that the luck of the Irish has always been with us. Playing in a country which we don't know a lot about, and it is what it is, we don't really focus too much on that."
Asked how low-scoring matches would affect his side's approach following the earlier match between Sri Lanka and South Africa, the skipper confessed that he might have to adapt to those conditions. He did not attach much importance to external factors, such as distance from the hotel and unfamiliarity with the location, and hinted that whatever the game plan, his team would stick with it.
Though these external factors are at play, Malan did hint that the team is resilient and determined to get their energies focused on preparation. He said in no uncertain terms: "We're not here to have a holiday; we're here to play cricket."
