The International Cricket Council (ICC) has declared a mind-boggling prize money of $11.25 million (approximately ₹93.5 crore) for the 2024 T20 World Cup. This is the highest ever prize money in the history of the T20 World Cup.
The champions will get at least $2.45 million (approximately ₹20.36 crore), and the runners-up will get at least $1.28 million (approximately ₹10.36 crore). Even losing semi-finalists won't go empty-handed and will earn $787,500 each.
This increase in prizemoney is by far significant, considering the 2022 edition offered a total of $5.6 million, with England taking home $1.6 million as champions.
Big Payouts for All Participants
The ICC's commitment extends beyond the top teams. Teams that don't make it past the Super 8s will still receive $382,500 each, and those finishing between ninth and twelfth will get $247,500 each. Even participants ranked from thirteenth to twentieth will walk away with $225,000 each. There's additional incentive too, with teams earning a bonus $31,154 for every match they win, excluding the semi-finals and final.
Biggest T20 World Cup Ever
This year's tournament promises to be the grandest T20 World Cup yet. Played across 28 days in nine venues across the West Indies and USA, it will feature a record-breaking 55 matches. Cricket fans will be treated to the action of 20 teams, including first-timers USA, Canada, and Uganda.
The format involves 40 first-round matches before the top eight teams advance to the Super 8s. From there, four teams will battle it out in the semi-finals (held in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana) to reach the final showdown in Barbados.
“This event is historic in so many ways so it is fitting that the prize money for players reflects that. Hundreds of millions of fans around the world will be entertained by the players in what we're hoping to be an Out of This World event," ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said.
