Indian cricketer Shubman Gill has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the fastest player in ODI history to reach 2,500 runs. He accomplished this feat during his 50th ODI match, surpassing the previous record held by South Africa's Hashim Amla, who reached the same mark in 53 innings.
Gill's journey to this record has been marked by consistent and impressive performances. In the ongoing ODI series against England, he has delivered three consecutive half-centuries, with scores of 87, 60, and an unbeaten 78. This streak makes him the seventh Indian to achieve three successive half-centuries in a three-match ODI bilateral series.
Since his ODI debut in January 2019, Gill has amassed over 2,500 runs, boasting an average exceeding 60 and a strike rate of 101.84. His impressive tally includes 16 half-centuries and six centuries.
Gill's exceptional form is a significant boost for India as they prepare for the 2025 Champions Trophy, where they aim to assert their dominance on the global stage.
In the current match against England, India is batting first and has posted 147 runs for the loss of two wickets after 23 overs. Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill are currently at the crease, while Virat Kohli contributed a solid 52 runs before his dismissal.
