In thrilling news for fans of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), retired Indian cricketer and popular CSK veteran Suresh Raina has come out with the news that M.S. Dhoni will be back for one more season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), delighting CSK's ardent followers.
Raina made the long-awaited declaration during a video appearance at the inauguration of a new production company that is supporting his maiden Tamil film, which is based on cricket. Though currently on vacation in Amsterdam with family, Raina participated in the Chennai-based function through a video call, regretting not being able to attend in person on short notice.
When asked about Dhoni’s plans, Raina responded with a smile, confirming, “M.S. Dhoni will be playing for one more year and he’s coming back to Chennai again.”
Raina also used the occasion to extend his warm wishes to Dhoni and his wife, Sakshi, on their wedding anniversary. “They have completed 15 years,” he said, congratulating the couple on their milestone.
A central character in CSK's history, Raina cited his wish to have more local players represented in the team. "Badri, Murali Vijay… Balaji is already on board. I think if you have the local flavour, the charisma and everything else is where it needs to be. That is what our administration is doing. We need to get the local players to the side," Raina said.
On why he opted for Tamil and the DKS production house for his debut in acting, Raina said, "I think DKS has a good director and first of all when the director told me the story, it was very close to us.". Then being a cricket film, it must begin from Tamil Nadu because we have played a lot of games for CSK for many years and they have a lot of affection, liking and a lot of love."
A light-hearted part of the function saw CSK teammate Shivam Dube being asked what kind of actor he would have been if he wasn't a cricketer. "A romantic hero," answered the straight-talking all-rounder. Raina, asked the same question, smiled and said, "I will be a very good singer. Holding the guitar in my hand. Preparing a nice dosa for my teammates. Loving to have rasam rice. I will be relaxed. No tension."
He added facetiously, "He (Shivam Dube) can be a romantic actor, I can be a romantic singer. So, we can gel along."
As eager fans await another exciting IPL season, Raina's news of Dhoni's comeback is sure to generate thrill amongst all CSK loyalists, hinting at yet another installment in the legend's mythical journey with the yellow brigade.
