Indian batting sensation Shreyas Iyer has been awarded the ICC Men's Player of the Month for March, after his outstanding performance in India's victorious campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy.
Iyer was the outstanding performer during the ODI series, ending up as the leading run-scorer with a score of 243 runs. His dominant performance placed him on top of New Zealand's Jacob Duffy and Rachin Ravindra, who were also among the favorites to win the monthly award.
"I am really humbled to be named the ICC Men's Player of the Month for March. The award is extremely special, particularly in a month where we won the ICC Champions Trophy — a moment that will always remain etched in my memory," Iyer said in a statement published by the ICC.
"Being able to contribute to India's success on such a big stage is the dream of every cricketer. I'm thankful to my team, coaches, and support staff for their constant support and belief.
"A thank you from the heart also to the fans — your energy and encouragement push us through each step."
With this victory, India won the ICC monthly award for a second time in a row, following Shubman Gill's win for February. Iyer's calm batting during the middle overs, along with his capability to form crucial partnerships, played a key role in India's journey to winning the title.
The 30-year-old scored 172 runs in three games in March, with an average of 57.33 and a strike rate of 77.47. His efforts included some impressive innings that helped establish India's place in the tournament.
One of his notable knocks was a gritty 79 off 98 balls against New Zealand in the Group A encounter — a timely effort that propelled India to a fighting total of 250 on a tough surface.
In the semi-final against Australia, Iyer contributed a solid 45 from 62 balls in a successful run chase. He finished his tournament with a calm 48 off 62 balls in the final, as usual against New Zealand, when India won the trophy.
