Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are going through a challenging phase in the ongoing IPL, and head coach Stephen Fleming has emphasized that while captain MS Dhoni's influence is undeniable, he does not possess the ability to magically turn the team's fortunes around.
Fleming acknowledged that the team is facing a tough run and that hard work, alongside Dhoni’s leadership, is crucial to getting back on track.
CSK are currently at the bottom of the points table, following a series of underperformances, and Dhoni's leadership is now more important than ever. Fleming made it clear that the turnaround wouldn't be easy, despite Dhoni’s presence. "He can’t just rub it over the side otherwise he would have brought it out earlier," Fleming remarked, stressing the importance of collective effort and focusing energy in the right direction.
The team's recent batting struggles, including a humiliating defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders, where CSK managed only 103 for 9, have been a significant concern. Fleming admitted that the team was hurting but emphasized the importance of moving forward in small steps and focusing on improving all aspects of the game.
While CSK has hit 32 sixes in six matches, Fleming urged the players not to get overly focused on power hitting. He emphasized the need for balance in the game, pointing out that top-class players still thrive in conditions that don't favor aggressive hitting.
Looking ahead to their match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Fleming highlighted Nicholas Pooran as a key threat, labeling him as the most dangerous player in world cricket at the moment. He stated that getting Pooran out and containing him would be essential for CSK’s chances of success in the upcoming game.
