Punjab Kings (PBKS) pacer Lockie Ferguson will probably sit out the rest of IPL 2025, as the team's fast-bowling coach, James Hopes, has confirmed.
Ferguson had to walk out of the playing field in the last game for PBKS versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday after only bowling two deliveries. Hopes said, "Ferguson is out indefinitely and the chances of us getting him back towards the end of the tournament are pretty slim, I would have thought. I believe he has inflicted a fairly serious injury."
The injury took place after Ferguson bowled the second ball of the sixth over against SRH. He was observed grasping the side of his left leg below the hip and had to depart the field following a conference with the physio. Ferguson did not resume bowling, and SRH went on to register the second-largest successful chase in IPL history by winning by eight wickets.
Ferguson had just returned from a hamstring injury he suffered in the ILT20 in the UAE that had kept him out of the Champions Trophy in February. This is the third injury for Ferguson since November 2024. Before his hamstring problem, he had suffered a calf injury, which had resulted in his not being available for the ODIs against Sri Lanka last year.
In the three and a half games he has played this season, Ferguson has claimed five wickets at an economy rate of 9.17.
