DDCA president Rohan Jaitley has rubbished speculation that he may be made the new secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India in case Jay Shah is made the next chairman of the International Cricket Council. There have been reports that the current BCCI secretary Jay Shah is one of the front runners to succeed the incumbent Greg Barclay, who has decided not to seek another term as the ICC chairman.
In a recent address to the ICC board, Greg Barclay disclosed that he will step down as ICC chairperson when his ongoing term expires in November. Barclay was elected ICC chairman in November 2020 and re-elected unopposed in 2022.
With Barclay's term having come to an end, Jay Shah is expected to take over the ICC chairmanship. That would open the post for the BCCI.
Shah came into prominence in the administration of cricket during his tenure with the BCCI and is continuing with his present assignment with the ACC, and a shift to the ICC is expected shortly in the future as his tenure with the BCCI draws to a close.
Worth mentioning is the fact that all this was a piece of speculation as long as Rohan Jaitley denied and confirmed how he does not try to seek new responsibilities with the BCCI. To the contrary, he drew emphasis on his commitment to increasing the league's popularity.
