In a challenging match for the Indian football team against Asian Cup champions Qatar, the Blue Tigers faced a 0-3 defeat in their second game of the Joint Qualification campaign for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027.
Qatar demonstrated their strength early in the game, with goals from Moustafa Mashal (4’), Almoez Ali (46’), and Yusuf Abdurisag (85’). Despite India having opportunities, such as chances missed by Anirudh Thapa and substitute Sahal Abdul Samad, Qatar's efficiency secured them the win.
Even with five changes in the starting lineup compared to their victory against Kuwait, India couldn't prevent Qatar from clinching all three points in this away match. While Amrinder Singh replaced Gurpreet Singh Sandhu in goal, Qatar's early lead came through Mashal's right-footer from Akram Afif's corner, exploiting a defensive lapse from India.
Qatar's dominance continued as they pressed for more chances, earning 10 corners in the first half while India struggled to create opportunities. Although India improved towards the latter part of the first half, Thapa's shot wide of the post in the 42nd minute was one of their close attempts.
The second half saw Qatar extending their lead, with Afif setting up Almoez Ali to make it 2-0. Despite a promising move by India in the 65th minute with Suresh Singh and Sahal Abdul Samad, Samad's shot went wide.
Qatar sealed the victory with Abdurisag's header, sealing a 3-0 win five minutes before the final whistle. Despite India's efforts, Qatar's efficiency and control over the game secured their win in this encounter.
