Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his well wishes to Mohammed Shami for a speedy recovery following the Indian pacer's recent ankle surgery.
In a message on X, PM Modi expressed confidence in Shami's ability to overcome the injury with his characteristic courage. He wrote, "Wishing you a speedy recovery and good health, @MdShami11! I'm confident you'll overcome this injury with the courage that is so integral to you."
Shami underwent a successful surgery on his heel to repair his Achilles tendon, a procedure that took place in the United Kingdom. The cricketer shared updates about his condition on social media, assuring fans of the successful operation and indicating that he would need time to regain full fitness before returning to the field.
The injury occurred during India's 2023 ODI World Cup campaign, and Shami has been sidelined from cricket since the final match against Australia on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Consequently, he missed both the T20I series against Australia and the subsequent tour of South Africa.
With the decision to undergo surgery and the ongoing rehabilitation process, Shami was ruled out of the entire five-match Test series against England.
