CWG 2022, table tennis: India's Sharath Kamal-Sreeja Akula win mnixed doubles gold
The India duo of Sharath and Sreeja, with a solid combination of experience and youth, beat Javen Choong and Karen Lyne of Malaysia 11-4, 9-11, 11-5, 11-6 to win the elusive gold medal. This was India's 18th gold in Birmingham and fifth of the day after medals in boxing and athletics. This was also Sharath Kamal's third medal at the CWG 2022 after a gold in men's team event and silver in men's doubles alongside Sathiyan Gnanasekaran.
CWG 2022, squash: Dipika Pallikal-Saurav Ghosal win mixed doubles bronze medal
Dipika and Saurav defeated Australian duo Donna Lobban and Cameron Pilley 2-0 (11-8, 11-4) in the bronze medal match at the University of Birmingham Hockey & Squash Centre. Up against the Aussie pair who had denied them the gold medal at Gold Coast 2018, the Indian duo started with a lot of intent. Dipika was the early aggressor and took the attack to the Aussies while Saurav anchored the play.

Nadeem, who is in a regular battle with India's Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra and at times even uses his javelin during competitions, won the bragging rights with the Indian as he became the first to cross the 90-metre mark.
CWG 2022, Cricket: India clinch silver medal after losing to Australia by nine runs
Shafali Verma began by smashing Megan Schutt for a brace of boundaries in the 12-run opening over. But in the next over, Smriti Mandhana's shuffle caused her downfall as Darcie Brown uprooted her leg-stump. Shafali was then dropped at cover off Ashleigh Gardner at the start of third over. But on the fourth ball, she miscued again and was caught at mid-on. Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur took time to settle in before taking three boundaries off Darcie in the final over of powerplay.

Ravi Bishnoi took four wickets while Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav shared three apiece to bowl West Indies out for 100 and give India a thumping 88-run win. It was the first instance of spinners taking all 10 wickets in a men's T20I innings. There have been seven other instances of spinners taking as many as nine wickets in a men's T20I innings with the latest occurrence coming in Austria's T20I against Hungary in June, 2022. It also occurred in the T20 World Cup last year when Afghanistan spinners took nine wickets against Scotland.

India had won three gold medals in the 2018 edition at Gold Coast and they matched it on Sunday with Nikhat, Nitu, and Amit Panghal winning their respective finals. In all India had won nine gold medals in 2018, the same as England but the former were the top team as they won five gold medals. In the 2022 edition, the roles seemed to have reversed as India have won three gold medals and three bronze thus far while England have no gold in the five medals they bagged so far.

It was a fitting retribution for India as it defeated Zew Zealand 2-1 in the penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 draw in regulation time to finish third. India had lost to Australia in the semifinal in penalty shoot-out after the Hockeyroos were asked to take the first shoot-out again after Indian goalkeeper Savita had saved it. On Sunday, there was no such drama as Sonika and Navneet converted their penalty shoot-out attempts while Savita thwarted four attempts by the New Zealand attackers, sending the team into wild celebrations.

But on Sunday, less than 24 hours after both teams were defeated in the semi-finals, New Zealand stepped up, right from the start to finish, to restrict England to 110-9 and went on to chase down the target with eight wickets in hand and 49 balls remaining. Opting to bat first, England had less than an ideal start as Danni Wyatt and Alice Capsey were dismissed cheaply, with the score at 10-2. Captain Nat Sciver and Sophia Dunkley were on the rebuild job for the remainder of Powerplay with a 34-run stand.
