The Indian cricket board on Monday announced a 15-member squad for the Asia Cup with stalwarts such as Virat Kohli and opener KL Rahul making a comeback even as pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel have missed out due to back and rib injury, respectively.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion, whose long-awaited return from injury this year ended in an early exit at Wimbledon, won 6-3, 6-4 in just under two hours at the National Bank Open, DPA reports. It was the first time Williams, in only her second appearance of the year, had won a singles match since beating Danielle Collins at Roland Garros on June 4, 2021. Wimbledon champion, Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina also won her first match since her triumph at the All England Club, although she needed three hours to overcome Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic 7-5, 6-7, 6-1.

The athletes walked in a random parade to music. The Indian contingent, comprising mostly of officials and some athletes like members of the TT squad, was led by flagbearers boxer Nikhat Zareen and top shuttler Sharad Kamal. The ceremony, which celebrates the success of 11 days of sporting action that encouraged sportspersons to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship to test their strength, stamina and endurance, had the athletes grooving to the music, letting their hair down to end a two-week journey which they completed with all seriousness. In the series, Arshdeep impressed everyone with his economical bowling to pick seven wickets and earn the Player of the Series award in 4-1 victory."It feels really good and feel grateful to represent my country.
