Paine, 36, has reached 150 dismissals in just 33 innings, thus putting him ahead of South Africa's Quinton de Kock, who took 34 innings to reach the number. The closest among Australians is wicketkeeping great Adam Gilchrist, who reached the landmark in 36 innings.

India take lead in first 2 Tests in Australia for 1st time since 1985-86

Australia were dismissed for 195 in their first innings on Saturday. India had taken a 53-run lead in the first Test at Adelaide last week although they eventually lost the game by eight wickets after being bowled out for 36 in the second innings. Back in 1985-86, India had got lead in the first Test at Adelaide, making 520 to Australia's 381, and in the second Test in Melbourne, scoring 445 against Australia's 262.

India was 189 for five at the end of the second session which was announced a bit early due to rain. India lost the wickets of Hanuma Vihari and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant while adding 99 in the second session. Vihari fell for 21 to leave India at 116 for four. He had added 52 for the fourth wicket with Rahane.

India, resuming at 36 for one, moved to 61 before Gill edged one behind off Pat Cummins. The young India opener fell for a 65-ball 45.
