Men’s ODI World Cup: Kusal Perera Sets Record with Fastest Fifty Against New Zealand

Perera achieved his fifty in just 22 balls, sharing the honor of the joint-second fastest half-century by a Sri Lankan in World Cup history with Dinesh Chandimal.

In a dazzling display of batting prowess, Kusal Perera lit up the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with the fastest half-century of the tournament during Sri Lanka's clash against New Zealand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Perera achieved his fifty in just 22 balls, sharing the honor of the joint-second fastest half-century by a Sri Lankan in World Cup history with Dinesh Chandimal. The record for the fastest Sri Lankan fifty in World Cup history is held by Angelo Mathews, who achieved the feat in just 20 balls against Scotland in 2015.

Before Perera's exceptional performance, the fastest fifties in the ongoing tournament were held by Australia's Travis Head and Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis, both reaching their milestones in 25 balls against New Zealand and South Africa, respectively.

Despite his explosive start, Perera was eventually dismissed by Lockie Ferguson after a blistering 28-ball innings, amassing 51 runs that included nine boundaries and two sixes.
