Kohli, Patidar, and Krunal Propel RCB to First Wankhede Victory in a Decade

Despite a late onslaught by Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya, RCB held their nerve in the death overs to register their first win at the venue since 2015.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru pulled off a thrilling 12-run win over Mumbai Indians in Match 21 of IPL 2025, ending a decade-long winless streak at the Wankhede Stadium. Despite a late onslaught by Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya, RCB held their nerve in the death overs to register their first win at the venue since 2015.

Pursuing a daunting 222, Mumbai Indians staged an awe-inspiring comeback after faltering early. Tilak Varma, who had been retired hurt in the last match, struck a blistering 56 off 29 balls, while captain Hardik Pandya scored 42 off merely 15 balls. The two added a 89-run partnership for the fifth wicket, taking MI from a virtually hopeless position — requiring 132 off 56 — to 41 off 18 balls.

But RCB's bowlers performed under pressure. Bhuvneshwar Kumar got rid of Varma, Hazlewood removed Hardik, and Krunal Pandya finished the game with a thrilling last over, taking three wickets including Mitchell Santner and Deepak Chahar on two successive balls. Requiring 12 from two balls, MI's hopes were dashed as Krunal got rid of Naman Dhir to complete a match-winning spell of 4/45.

Earlier, Virat Kohli (67 off 42) and Rajat Patidar (64 off 32) propelled RCB to a strong 221/5. Kohli hit his second fifty of the season, while Patidar, along with Jitesh Sharma (40* off 19), combined to add 69 vital runs for the fifth wicket. In spite of a late revival by Mumbai, RCB's total was just sufficient.
