IPL 2025: Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals Match Abandoned in Dharamshala

"Yes, the match has been cancelled as a precautionary measure, because there are some incidents which occurred in Jammu, I think. That's what we came to know, so we thought it was wise to cancel the game," Dhumal said.

The Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings IPL 2025 match that was to be played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala was on Thursday evening postponed due to rising security issues following the occurrences in Jammu and nearby areas. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal clarified that the match was put on hold in view of safety.

"Yes, the match has been cancelled as a precautionary measure, because there are some incidents which occurred in Jammu, I think. That's what we came to know, so we thought it was wise to cancel the game," Dhumal said.

The match had been originally delayed by an hour but was proceeding well when, at 122/1 in 10.1 overs, the floodlights were extinguished. Punjab Kings were on top with opener Priyansh Arya scoring 70 and Prabhsimran Singh left on 50 not out.

Following the malfunction of the floodlight, both teams were safely evacuated from the stadium and local authorities tightened security measures following reports of drone and missile attacks by Pakistan in Jammu, which resulted in a city-wide blackout. The same power outages were observed in Baramulla, Pathankot, and Chandigarh.

Despite the unfortunate delay, the game had witnessed a healthy first-wicket stand between Arya and Prabhsimran. Arya had started the proceedings with a scorching start, hitting Mitchell Starc for back-to-back boundaries, and Prabhsimran had kept pace with three boundaries of his own. Punjab Kings were 69/0 when powerplay was reached, and the opening duo had already scored a 122-run partnership for the first wicket.

Arya reached his half-century off just 25 balls and played on in a similar aggressive vein, dispatching Kuldeep Yadav for two massive sixes. Prabhsimran also scored a searing fifty off 28 balls. The stand, however, was truncated when Arya attempted a slog against T. Natarajan, top-edged the ball to short third man. Shortly thereafter, the floodlight failure occurred, and the game was then officially abandoned.
