Opener Prabhsimran Singh played a fantastic inning and scored his maiden century during Match No. 59 of IPL season 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium. His innings of 103 off 65 balls helped Punjab Kings reach a competitive total of 167/7 against Delhi Capitals.
Punjab Kings had a rocky start as they lost three important wickets in the Power-play, with Shikhar Dhawan (7), Liam Livingstone (4) and Jitesh Sharma (5) all falling early. However, Prabhsimran and Sam Curran steadied the ship with a crucial fourth-wicket partnership of 72 runs off 54 balls.
Although wickets fell at the other end, Prabhsimran managed to find the boundaries and kept the scoreboard ticking. He was able to accelerate the scoring in the latter part of the innings, hitting Mitchell Marsh for two sixes and one four in an over that yielded 21 runs. He reached his fifty in 42 balls and then went on to score his century off 61 balls.
Despite losing partners, Prabhsimran continued to take on the Delhi bowlers and played some excellent shots. However, he was dismissed soon after reaching his century by Mukesh Kumar, who also bowled a tight over to give away only three runs.
Delhi Capitals' Ishant Sharma was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2-27, while Kuldeep Yadav, Axar and Praveen Dubey also bowled well to keep Punjab Kings in check. In the end, Punjab Kings were able to post a competitive total of 167/7 in their 20 overs.
