Indian football icon Sunil Chhetri has opted to turn back his international retirement to come to the aid of the underperforming national team during this month's FIFA friendly matches, the nation's football governing body announced on Thursday.
"Sunil Chhetri is back. The captain, leader, legend will don the Indian national team jersey once again for the FIFA International Window in March," the All India Football Federation (AIFF) posted on its official 'X' handle.
Chhetri’s comeback comes less than a year after he bid farewell to international football following a stellar career, leaving behind a void that remains unfilled.
The Indian senior men’s team will play two matches during this month’s FIFA international window, both of which will take place at Shillong’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
