Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Thursday confirmed the schedule for India's two-Test tour of Sri Lanka, with the World Test Championship fixtures set to be played in Galle and Colombo between August 15 and 27.
According to an SLC statement, the opening Test will begin on August 15 at the Galle International Stadium, while the second and final match of the series will be held at the Singhalese Sports Club from August 23.
India, who have reached the World Test Championship final twice without lifting the trophy, are currently placed fifth in the standings. Sri Lanka occupy the sixth position.
Following the Sri Lanka assignment, India will travel to New Zealand later this year for a two-Test series scheduled during November and December.
The upcoming tour comes after India opened the Shubman Gill captaincy era with a creditable 2-2 drawn series in England before securing a home Test series victory over the West Indies.
However, South Africa handed India a comprehensive home whitewash last year, exposing concerns over the batting unit's ability against spin bowling.
Those issues will once again come under scrutiny in Sri Lanka, where the home side's spin attack is expected to pose a stern examination for the Indian batters in familiar subcontinental conditions.
India's previous Test tour of Sri Lanka came in 2017, when they completed a dominant 3-0 series sweep.
