Abhishek Sharma etched his name into the record books on Wednesday by becoming the fastest batter to hit 100 sixes in T20 Internationals during the opening match between India and England.
Opening the innings with Sanju Samson, the left-handed batter reached the milestone after smashing two sixes in his first nine deliveries. He brought up his 100th T20I six in just 785 balls, setting a new world record.
The Punjab batter overtook West Indies opener Evin Lewis, who had previously held the record after reaching 100 T20I sixes in 789 deliveries. Among players representing Full-Member nations, New Zealand's Finn Allen is next on the list, having achieved the feat in 871 balls earlier this year in February.
Abhishek also established a new Indian benchmark by surpassing former T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, who had needed 1007 deliveries to reach the same milestone.
In terms of innings, Abhishek arrived at the landmark in 48 T20I innings, making him the second-fastest overall behind Lewis, who achieved it in 42 innings.
Since making his T20I debut for India in July 2024, Abhishek has developed into one of the world's most destructive opening batters during the current World Cup cycle. He is currently ranked second in the ICC T20I Rankings for batters. Although he endured a disappointing World Cup campaign earlier this year, he bounced back with a sparkling half-century against New Zealand in the final in Ahmedabad in March.
With more than 1,450 career T20I runs to his name, Abhishek also owns the highest strike rate — exceeding 190 — among all batters with at least 1,000 runs in the format.
Across all T20 cricket, however, the overall record belongs to Abhishek's teenage teammate Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who reached 100 sixes in just 515 deliveries during his record-breaking IPL 2026 campaign with the Rajasthan Royals.
