Ravindra's choice at number one in the order was on the cards after his outstanding performance, which consisted of two centuries and a tournament-high 263 runs. His match-winning 112 against Bangladesh and his 108 in the semi-final against South Africa proved that he could deliver under pressure.

Afghanistan also broke history with two of their cricketers securing places in the team after their first-ever ICC Men's Champions Trophy victory. Ibrahim Zadran was one of the key performers, posting a record 177-run innings against England—the highest score by an individual in the history of the tournament.

India's Virat Kohli claimed the number three spot after accumulating 218 runs at a staggering average of 54.50. His match-winning century against Pakistan and his vital 84-run contribution in the semi-final against Australia were key to India's victory.

Middle-order colleagues Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul accompany Kohli. Iyer was India's highest scorer with two half-centuries, and Rahul ended on a remarkable average of 140. Glenn Phillips of New Zealand came in at number six, demonstrating his capabilities both with the bat and with the field. His one-handed diving catch to get out Shubman Gill in the last match was one of the highlights, along with his half-century against Pakistan and his two-wicket return against South Africa in the semi-final.

Azmatullah Omarzai joined the second Afghan player to be included in the squad. The all-rounder made an impression with both bat and ball, picking seven wickets at 20 average and hitting 126 runs at 42.00.

Santner, who had nine wickets to his credit, was made captain due to his capability of picking important wickets, a crucial spell of which came in the final. His brilliant bowling was complemented by a remarkable catch from Phillips to get rid of Shubman Gill, and another important wicket of Iyer.

The team was completed by Varun Chakravarthy, who picked nine wickets in only three games. He bowled his full share in every game and never went over 49 runs in a match. India's Axar Patel was selected as the 12th man.
