Kejriwal had then said: "You cannot defeat us in this life; you’ll need another birth to defeat us in Delhi," referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP at the time.

A shocking defeat for the Aam Aadmi Party, where party chief Arvind Kejriwal's boastful 2023 claim in a video has emerged and gone viral following the party's crushing loss in the Delhi Assembly elections-including his crushing defeat in New Delhi constituency.

Kejriwal had then said: "You cannot defeat us in this life; you’ll need another birth to defeat us in Delhi," referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP at the time.

Now, those words of Kejriwal appear to be bitterly ironic as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surges ahead with 48 seats out of 70, while AAP is trailing with just 22 seats.

Needless to say, AAP had been looking at a hat-trick in Delhi and is now facing the humiliating and crushing defeat. Since the BJP was to be out of power for 26 long years in Delhi, it would celebrate this historical victory at AAP headquarters that were in a dejection and gloom at that moment.

The same moment also witnessed full swing celebrations in BJP headquarters. The poll results have broken Kejriwal's earlier big claims and proved that the BJP has once again asserted its dominance in the national capital.

Tweeting on X, Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal, who once came close to Kejriwal, said: "Ahankaar Ravan ka bhi nahi bacha thaa (Even Ravan, with all his arrogance, couldn't save himself)", mocking Kejriwal's arrogance in the face of such a crushing defeat.

In the high-profile New Delhi constituency, Kejriwal lost his seat to BJP's Parvesh Verma by a significant margin. It was both a personal and political blow to the AAP leader.

It was not just Kejriwal who suffered defeat; his trusted aides also were defeated. Manish Sisodia, considered Kejriwal's political heir, lost in Jangpura.

But Atishi, Kejriwal's other associate and Chief Ministerial successor, was still leading her BJP rival Ramesh Bidhuri in Kalkaji after being behind for long. As of now, with the BJP's vote share at 47.01 per cent and the AAP at 43.16 per cent, the outcome of this election has exposed AAP's vulnerabilities.

The party, which once fancied a stronghold in Delhi, needs to come to terms with the brutal fact that the BJP has regained its dominance over the capital.
