The sexual assault videos case has taken a serious turn when the family of one of the victims took the bold step of lodging a First Information Report (FIR) against Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. The allegations include rape, threats, and blackmailing.
This is the second FIR in the ongoing case. Earlier, the Karnataka Police had lodged a complaint against HD Revanna, JD(S) MLA, and the father of Prajwal Revanna, regarding the kidnapping of one of the victims of the scandal. Earlier this week, the son of another victim had come forward by lodging a police complaint detailing the abduction of his mother and has named HD Revanna as the main suspect.
In the latest FIR, the new victim, a local leader who is a married woman, has bravely described her ordeal. She had registered a complaint in the Criminal Investigation Department, stating that she had not yet reported the crimes out of threat by Prajwal Revanna, who threatened to release a video of her assault.
Now, with the help of the Special Investigation Team, the victim has been unleashed, and one might easily deduce that Prajwal Revanna will be arrested.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had made it clear that Prajwal Revanna, the BJP nominee for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency under the NDA, would be arrested wherever he tries to run away.
It is learnt that the suspended JD(S) leader is currently on the run abroad, frequently changing his location. "I was approached by the victim to narrate her horror story and how the assault was effected. She said, "I also approached MLA and MP for public works projects and to put the pressure on government officials on my behalf." In 2021, she met JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna to urge him to provide hostel placements for students in college. Revanna told me that there was an emergency and that I should return the next day.
The next day, I went to the MP's office in Hassan, which was in the MP Quarters. I was told to wait in a floor designated for women after Revanna told other visitors to leave. Still, he brought me to a bedroom with him. He closed the door and told me not to say a word about the boldness of my husband because he said that is why my mother lost an MLA ticket. He kept on telling me to undress so he could promote my husband. I told him 'no' and he told me he will kill both of us if I resist or call the police.
He raped me and threatened to kill me and my husband if I resist or call the police. He recorded the rape on his mobile and called me back for more.
I didn't resist; I was afraid of being publicly humiliated and violence to my husband. But Revanna continued to abuse and use me."
