Unveiling Assam's Pride: PM Modi Reveals 125-Foot Statue of Lachit Borphukan

The unveiling took place at the Lachit Barphukan Maidam Development Project in Hollongapar, situated near the Teok area of the district, where the Prime Minister arrived via helicopter from Arunachal Pradesh. Embracing the local culture, PM Modi adorned himself in traditional attire, complete with traditional headgear.

In a significant ceremony held in Assam's Jorhat district, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed the impressive 125-feet statue honoring the revered 16th-century Ahom general, Lachit Borphukan.

The unveiling took place at the Lachit Barphukan Maidam Development Project in Hollongapar, situated near the Teok area of the district, where the Prime Minister arrived via helicopter from Arunachal Pradesh. Embracing the local culture, PM Modi adorned himself in traditional attire, complete with traditional headgear.

The unveiling ceremony followed an Ahom rite, adding cultural significance to the event, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accompanying the Prime Minister throughout.

Crafted by the skilled hands of sculptor Ram Vanji Sutar, the statue stands at an impressive height of 84 feet, placed atop a 41-foot pedestal, soaring to a total of 125 feet. This monumental structure pays homage to the valiant spirit of Lachit Borphukan, a revered figure in Assam's history.

It's worth noting that the foundation stone for this magnificent statue was laid by former President Ram Nath Kovind in February 2022, marking a milestone in the tribute to Lachit Borphukan's legacy.
