Those in power after Independence were ashamed of their own culture, says PM Modi

Addressing a substantial gathering in Guwahati after inaugurating projects valued at ₹11,600 crore, PM Modi stressed the importance of preserving the past for a nation's progress. Highlighting a positive shift in the last decade, PM Modi underlined that erasing history does not contribute to a country's advancement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday emphasized the lack of understanding among those in power post-Independence regarding the significance of places of worship. He claimed that a trend had been set, wherein political reasons led to a sense of shame about one's own culture. 

Addressing a substantial gathering in Guwahati after inaugurating projects valued at ₹11,600 crore, PM Modi stressed the importance of preserving the past for a nation's progress. Highlighting a positive shift in the last decade, PM Modi underlined that erasing history does not contribute to a country's advancement.

"However the situation has changed in the last 10 years," he said.

The projects unveiled, according to him, will enhance connectivity not only within the Northeast but also throughout South Asia. He credited the improved situation in Assam over the past 10 years for the return of peace, with more than 7,000 individuals relinquishing arms to rejoin mainstream society.

During his speech, Modi noted the record-breaking number of tourists visiting the region in the past decade. Additionally, he showcased the achievements of his government in the last decade, emphasizing the establishment of premier educational institutions such as IITs and IIMs across the nation.

The Prime Minister highlighted the significant growth in the education sector, pointing out that his government has expanded it to every corner of the country. In Assam, he proudly mentioned the increase in the number of medical colleges from 6 to 12 under the BJP government's tenure. He further lauded Assam's emergence as a vital zone in the North-East for cancer treatment.
