A bitter political battle has erupted in Bihar following Opposition Leader Tejashwi Yadav's controversial remark comparing the Election Commission's "sources" with "urine," leading to stiff reactions from the ruling NDA combine.
The comment was made at a Mahagathbandhan press conference when a journalist quizzed Yadav on media reports asserting that names of Myanmar, Nepalese, and Bangladeshi foreign nationals had purportedly made it into the electoral rolls of Bihar in the course of the current Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Challenge to the validity of the reports, Yadav challenged the authenticity of such claims. When he was told the reports were based on unnamed "sources," he reacted sharply: "We consider such sources to be urine."
The statement immediately drew condemnation from NDA leaders, most notably Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who took to social media platform X to express his outrage. In a strongly worded post, Choudhary described Tejashwi’s remark as a sign of “panic, restlessness, irritation, and trembling.”
Labeling Yadav a “Loudmouth,” Choudhary added, “Whenever Tejashwi comes on the mic, nervousness is visible on his face and trembling in his voice.”
He proceeded to infer that the RJD chief was worried due to internal political stress — most notably the threat of electoral defeat and the pressure of ruling within his party under dynast leadership.
Choudhary also foretold disunity in the Mahagathbandhan alliance, noting, "No matter how much these people, having come together for loot, put on the mask of lies, there is definitely going to be a split between them within the next few months."
The row comes while the Election Commission is in the process of revising Bihar's voter lists, with field verification and form collection from June 25 to July 25. While the opposition has complained about irregularities in the process, the ruling NDA accused them of attempting to sabotage a constitutional exercise for political gains.
Tejashwi’s incendiary remark has provided fresh ammunition to the NDA to target the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Mahagathbandhan alliance, intensifying the already heated political atmosphere in Bihar as the state prepares for the upcoming assembly elections.
