The leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, made a significant move on Wednesday by presenting a compilation of nearly 17 lakh purportedly fraudulent voters in the state to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Adhikari arrived at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal equipped with 24 bags containing the dossier of 'spurious' voters. Alongside the physical submission, he also submitted a formal representation to the CEO's office, asserting that the BJP has identified precisely 16,91,132 individuals suspected of being 'fake' voters in West Bengal.
According to Adhikari, the roster comprises the names of deceased voters and individuals who have relocated. Moreover, there are instances of duplication, with names appearing on multiple voter lists.
Highlighting the significance of this revelation, Adhikari underscored that the count of bogus voters nearly matches the margin between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
In addition to the exhaustive 14,267-page document, Adhikari ensured the provision of digital copies stored on a pen drive. He further announced the ECI's forthcoming visit to West Bengal in March, during which the full bench is slated to engage with all political factions. Adhikari pledged to apprise the full bench team of these irregularities during their visit.
However, the Trinamool Congress leadership promptly refuted these accusations, denouncing them as "completely baseless."
