On Tuesday, the Supreme Court concluded the Special Leave Petitions submitted by former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who sought bail in cases of corruption and money laundering associated with the alleged excise policy scam.
The bench, comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and Sandeep Mehta, stated that the draft order was dictated in chambers and that the final version would be published on the Supreme Court's website.
During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, opposing Sisodia’s plea, assured the court that the final charge sheet in the excise policy case would be filed by July 3.
Previously, on May 21, the Delhi High Court denied bail to the senior AAP leader. The court cited his failure to meet the triple test for bail in the corruption case and the twin conditions stipulated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) of 2002.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma of the High Court, however, allowed Sisodia to continue visiting his ailing wife weekly, adhering to the terms previously set by the trial court.
Earlier, in March, the Supreme Court had dismissed Sisodia's curative petitions against the rejection of his review pleas concerning its 2023 verdict, which denied him bail in the liquor policy case.
In a judgment issued on October 30, 2023, the Supreme Court once again denied bail to Sisodia but noted that he could reapply if the trial experienced significant delays over the following three months.
Earlier, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Court had also denied Sisodia's request for regular bail, highlighting that delays in the trial were predominantly due to actions attributable to Sisodia himself, thereby rejecting his claims of unjust delays.
In the meantime, a Delhi court extended Sisodia's judicial custody in the excise policy case, under investigation by the CBI, until July 6.
