SKM retains power in Sikkim for second consecutive term, sweeps Assembly polls

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang emerged victorious in the Rhenock constituency with a margin of over 7,000 votes and is ahead in the Soreng Chakung constituency as well. 

The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) on Sunday secured a second consecutive term in the Himalayan state by winning 21 out of 32 seats in the Assembly, achieving a clear majority.

Led by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, the SKM is also leading in 10 additional seats.

Tamang emerged victorious in the Rhenock constituency with a margin of over 7,000 votes and is ahead in the Soreng Chakung constituency as well. 

The Sikkim Democratic Front, which ruled the state uninterruptedly for 25 years till 2019, could win only one seat.

SDF president and former Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling was defeated in both constituencies he contested.

The assembly elections took place simultaneously with the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19.
